Translation

Both Japanese into English and English into Japanese translation services.

Our work is done by a team with a native speaker from each language. It is in this way we are able to make sure your translation is:

• Faithful to the original text
• Respectful of any necessary cultural or technical context
• Written in coherent natural sounding language

(Sorry, but we currently do not accept medical texts)

For software and GUI translations we use Microsoft style guidelines and glossaries for the most familiar sounding and appropriate translations of terminology for software manuals, graphical user interfaces, and computer related content.

• Note: For companies with larger sized projects and experience with using proprietary Translation Memory (TM) with a CAT tool we use SDLTrados 2007. We can support your valuable TM data in the industry standard format using the industry's leading translation software application.

• Note: Patents are handled by single translators

OCR

You may have a paper document, book, PDF file, magazine article or graphic written in Japanese that you may wish to have converted into an editable format such as a Word or Rich Text File. Typing documents in Japanese is much more time consuming than English. Why not have it converted by us using (Optical Character Recognition) OCR? We can rapidly transcribe it for you using our Japanese OCR software. We have robust business class OCR software for almost any kind of printed document. We often charge under a penny per Japanese character and as part of the service we have the OCR output checked by hand so you can be sure it is correct.

Typesetting and Other Services

For those who wish to use distinctive Japanese fonts we offer typesetting services. By utilizing our large collection of Japanese fonts you can add an expressive style to your document or presentation materials. We can apply a range of other formatting options such as a top-to-bottom right-to-left orientation, and Furigana/Ruby (phonetic guides). We have most of the major word processor applications from Microsoft Word and LaTeX to Ichitaro and Corel WordPerfect for your convenience.

Graphic Design and Desktop Publishing

We have a large collection of highly customizable and royalty free traditional Japanese graphics for use in your ads, printed materials, banner or webpage design, menus, and other marketing materials. Much of it appears in our downloadable catalog, but still many more images are in our archives for use in your professional graphic design projects.

We have professional graphic artists on staff with whom we can coordinate your translation and graphic design needs seamlessly in one step. Please see our services table below for our rates for DTP touch ups of existing graphics. We currently us the Adobe Creative Suite 2 for most graphics and can accept your files from Illustrator, InDesign, etc.

If you are looking for a little added production to your audio files we have you covered. We have collected from Japanese studios a wide array of sound effects which are more familiar to Japanese ears than the American produced sounds used in Voice-over production. You can select sounds ranging from a short burst of Shamisen to the gentle whistle of a Shakuhachi, and even modern sounds of Japan. These sounds will connect on an emotional level with your audience, making your project have a little something extra over the others. We can also add your music or create our own here as back-ground music for your narrated production.

Website Localization

Besides just getting a translation of your website in a Word document, what if someone could take your existing website and change all the text to Japanese or English but leave all the formatting intact? We use special software here to do just that. In addition to having it translated, have your HTML documents reformatted with the translation at a low cost to you.

Delivery and Timetable

The time it takes to finish a given project will depend on the number of translators working on it, its size, type, and our workload. Translators on average can accurately translate 2000-2250 words per day maximum with a day or two needed for quality measures (translation check and proofread). Our teams can reach up to 2500 words per day maximum. Please keep this in mind when planning for your translation projects. Certainly we will work with you to try to meet your time constraints on a project. For general projects, a 2000 word document has a 3 day turn around time.

We can provide your documents in any number of formats determined by your preference. The most common formats are PDF, EPS and Microsoft Word files sent via email. We can also fax or express mail the document on paper, CD-ROM, and 3.25” floppy disk. Of course we will try to honor any reasonable special requests made for delivery.
